30. Reflection Paragraph on sources

The sources i used helped me alot because it was pretty easy to find the information i needed, also since i had it written down, whenever needed, I was able to go back to the sources to use again if neccessary. The most useful, yet bias, were the source that I used for the reviews. Those were bias because the reviews were all opinion nated but it was reviews so they were as I expected them to be. The most trustworthy was the one sbout censorship on wikipedia because as i went to multiple websites, i can tell they all had about the same near definition.

28. Reflection on Findings and Process

My research did not surprise me at all. Especially about the reasons about why the book should and should not be banned. The most interesting thing i did discovered in my research though was about the reviewa. Some people feel as though this book Go Ask Alice should be read starting at age 12 - thats my brother age and i can't even think about him readin a book as descriptive as this. Although i can understand that persons viewpoint for reading this book so early since its the beginning of the teenage years, i think probably as a freshma, that teenagers should be allow to read Go Ask Alice.

It was pretty easy to reflect on my research since I was able to compare my thoughts to other readers and information about Go Ask Alice. I enjoy parts of the book about how she had kept trying to motivate herself about staying off drugs and to also have a few good friends, but the things i did not like in the book was how she always use to down her family or the actual good friends she had. I understand that it might have been the caused from the drugs, but in my opinion, Alice did have a good life but she was always pulled back into the drugs when ever she wanted the attention from certain people. If I had to do this project differently. I would have tried to pace myself to read the book at a certain pace since it was so short to read.

27. Finding Paragraph 3

Thwe last question I had asked myself were if Alice was ever going to get off the drugs and will she ever go back home from running away the first time. Well, my questions have been answered. Alice does not ewnd up gettin off drugs completly, but with the help of her parents, she is taking it step by step, and with that, i have jus said her parenst are helping her meaning yes, Alice had made it back home from being a runaway.

"After school today we had group therapy in the Youth Center dayroom. It was very interesting listening to the kids. I was dying to ask how all the kids had felt when they first came here, but i didn't dare open my mouth." Page 160

"Oh, glorious, marvelous, wonderful, inmcredible, fantastic day! Day with birds and singing and sunshine and flowers! I can't tell you how happy I am. I'm getting out of here! I'm going HOME! All the papers will be signed today and Dad and Mom will come get me tommorow. Oh, lifetime away tommorow. I feel like screaming with joy but that would probably make them come and lock me up again. -" Page 166

26. Finding Paragraph 2

Another question I had asked myself in the beginning of the book was why Alice had stopped hanging out with Beth, and just stared hanging out with Chris so much? Well, as I read more, I saw that Beth had went to a summer camp so that left Alice all alone for the summer since she didnt have many friends in her new town, but then when she met Chris, she got a new best friend.

"Today i received the ghastly news that Beth is going to have to go to summer camp for six weeks. Her folks are going to Europe so they've made arrangments for her at an all-Jewish camp. I am heartbroken and so is she. We've both talked to our parents, but we might as well be talking to the wind. They dont hear us, they dont even listen to us." Page 22

"It is over! At noon Beth is leaving. Last night we said our goodbyes and we both cried and clung to each other like frightened children. Beth is as alone as I sm." Page 24

25. Finding Paragraph 1

I find out that Alice has ran away to Oregon knowing she doesnt like to be away from her family is because she has ran away with her best friend, Chris. She and Chris thinks that this is the answer for them to run away from evryone and also a crime Alice is afraid to speak up to the police for, and to be clean from drugs.

"Chris and I sat around all day thinking things over. She's been using drugs for over a year and i've been on since July 10 to be exact. We've decided it would be impossible to change while we're here so we're going to  cut out and go to San Francisco. And i've simply got to turn Richie in to the police. -" Page 55

"It's very sad sneaking off in the middle of the night, but Chris and I couldnt think of no other way." Page 56

22. Quote, Caption, Citation

"- But I think when a person gets older she should be able to discuss her problems and thoughts with other people, instead of just with another part of herself as you have been to me." Page 183-184

This quote is discussing how she realizes that by writing in her diary everyday does not help her. she is realizing that she needs a real friend to discuss her problems, thoughts, and feelings to. With the diary, she calls it her friend as though it is just a book, an object. Fianlly seeing in the end how a book cannot help her with any of her thoughts she may be confuse about, she decides that it is time for her to be without the attention of a diary.

21. Groups that have banned the book and Citation

Marashall University and Hanahan Middle School in Berkeley County (SC)

Marshall University and Hanahan Middle School in Berkeley County has banned the book Go Ask Alice because of the explicit language, the usage of drugs, and the contents and discussion about sexual behavior.

Marshall University. Banned book Week. 19 May 2012. <http://www.marshall.edu/library/bannedbooks/books/goaskalice.asp>

20. Message Passage 2, Explanation, and Citation

"- I used to think I would get another diary after you are filled, or even that I would keep a diary or journal through my whole life. But now I don't really think i will. Diaries are great when you're young. In fact, you saved my sanity a hundred, thousand, million times. But i think when a person gets older she should be able to discuss her problems and thoughts with other people, instead of just with another part of herself as you have been to me. Don't you agree? I hope so, for you are my dearest friend and I shall thank  you always for sharing my tears and heartaches and my struggels and strifes, and my joys and happinesses. It's all been good in its own special way, I guess.
                                See ya." Page 183-184

This passage is a great example of why the book Go Ask Alice should not be banned, because in this paragraph, she is basically explaining to herself about how she no longer needs a diary. She no longer needs a diary because she realizes that everyone should have that one person where they can discuss everything with. Whether its a parent, friend, or sibling, it should be someone you really value, love, and trust to stir you in the right direction with good advice, instead of trying to come up with all the answers by yourself for yourself.

19. Message Passage 1, Explanation, and Citation

"I looked at the sky this morning and realized that summer is almost gone which really made me sad because it doesnt seem as thought its been here at all. Oh, i don't want it to be old. I have this very silly fear, dear friend, that one day I'll be old, without ever having really been young. I wonder if it could happen that quickly or if i've ruined my life already. Do you think life can get by you without you ever seeing it? Cripes, it gives me chills just thinking about it." Page 176

This quote tells the readers that even after all she has occured during this one summer in the book, she has not given up and is still trying to d better. This far in the book, she has tolsd her parents and no longer worrying about what her so call friends or boyfriend is thinking about her because of not doing drughs anymore. This paragraph should reconsider the minds of teachers, librainians, and parents about being banned because it teaches the teens that although they may have gotten strated on something, with a littler help they can be stopped; do not worry about what people think about you. If someone does not want to be your friend or boyfriend because your not willing to do drugs or sex with them and you know its wrong, then that person does not really love you, care for you, or isnt even a real friend to you.

17) Controversial Passage #3, Explanation, citation

"Well last night it happened. I am no longer a virgin!...Actually last night it took me a long time to get started on the trip. I just sat in the corner feeling left out and sort of antagonistic, then suddenly it happened ans I wanted to dance widly and make love. -" Page 36

This a controversial passage because this when se actually start making decisions while doing drugs not knowing she is only feeling and doing these things because og the drugs she is given to take.

16) Controversial passage #2, Explanation, citation

"....Well he introduced me to torpedos on Friday and speed on Sunday. They are both like riding shooting stars into the Milky Way, only a million, trillion times better. The speed was a little scary at first because Bill had to inject it right into my arm. -" Page 32

This passag is also controversial because she begins to exspierment with many other drugs so can get evryone to think she is cool, including this boy, Bill, that she likes.

15) Controversial passage #1, Explanation, citation

"Suddenly  i began to feel something strange inside myself like a storm...The palms of my hands were sweating and i could feel droplets of moisture on my scalp at the back of my neck...My whole body was tense at every muiscle and a feeling of apprehension swept over me, strangled me, suffocated me..." Page 27-28

This passage can be label as controversial because it is the beggining of her doing drugs (LSD) for the first time.

14) Quote, paraphrase, citation

"A raindrop just splashed on my forehead and it was like a tear from heaven. Are the clouds and skies really weeping over me? Am i really alone in the whole wide gray world? Is it possible that God is crying for me? Oh no... no no ... Im losing my mind. Please God, help me." page 98-99

This quote in the book, Go Ask Alice, to me means that Alice is really feeling sad and lonely. Right now she has ran away from home and is feeling confused and really lost in her self right now. She's miserable and is realizing how she has a good life but how she has ruin it and has gotten herself to where she is now. In this quote, she soons see how terrible she have made her own life, and later decides that she needs to straighten up, and go home.

13) Photo, caption, citation

This photo relates to Go Ask Alice because everytime she chose to do drugs, it will always be dealt with the reason of how she wanted to look cool by her "friends" and to be attracted by this boy.

12) Book Review from well known source and citation

How else should kids learn?
"I think it is important for kids to read about things that are bad. Parent anti- drug talks are lame and no kid wants to listen to what their parents have to say. This book allows kids to learn about the effects drugs can have on their lives. Maybe this should be the new anti-drug campaign... To comment on the bad language and violence and drug comments of others: Well DUH! That's the point. This is real life stuff. You would never believe what kids are really doing these days. I think they need to read about what could happen if they don't think about their actions. Without books like this, kids will just have to try these things on their own instead of reading about it...."

11) Info on the author!

The author of Go Ask Alice is known as Anonymous so I really can't tell you any information about him/her.

My author does try to teach lesson in Go Ask Alice as they discuss about the pressures of an average teenager awho teries to get notice by others who are label as "cool" as they do things they really dont want to such as drugs and sex, but in the end knowing that sex and drugs does not make but instead changes a person for the worst, although they can get back up andf help themselves.

10) Describe the Ban!

The book Go Ask Alice is a book that is banned from certain schools because of tha main plot of the book.  I think this book was banned because by mid-starting point of the book, 15 year old Alice is soon encountered with drugs and becomes addicted. While being addicted on drugs, she starts to chnage completely, from attitude, change in friends, and taste in boys.

I think the main reason Go Ask Alice is banned is because of the language that is used in the book. in Go Ask Alice, there is a constant discussion about drugs, rape, and sex -inclduing a disussion of a homosexual rape occuring. These subjects can be found very offensive to others and some causeing the banned of the book.

9) Describe your book!

Go Ask Alice is an amazing book. It is narrated from a young teenage girl who grows up while enduring the actual pressure as a teen. From drugs, to sex, to realizing who her real friends are, Alice tells tells us about occuring events she faces from it is written through her own diary. Based on a true story, being the reader can actually infer, compare and contrast, and feel the writers emotion through her own pages. From the heart, Alice tells us her true feelings and confusion about life and the people in it. Although the ending may be not as what I expected, I can still say  Go Ask Alice had helped me understand that everyone life is not different, and whether a druggie or runaway, everyone goes through something that had led them there.

8) What is Censorship? citation

3. What I Want To Know About My Book

About Go Ask Alice, I would like to know why Cris and Alice had even decided to run away to Oregon when they knew the first time they didnt like being far away from their family. Also, I can't help but wonder why Alice makes it seems like her life is so dreadful? In my opinion, I believe
Alice has a great family who really cares, including her younger brother and sister, and why she doesn't hangs out with her best friend Beth anymore. Beth went away to summer camp, Alice met Cris, and now Beth is just out of the picture? I would also like to know why the author remained anonymous, and I can't really do a lot of reserach since there are fake names and places of course. I also want to know if Alice will be forever sprung out on these drugs and this time, will she make it home? Those are some things I wouldn"t mind knowing though.

2. What I Already Know About My Book

In the past two days, I have already read about half my book. In Go Ask Alice, I have so far learned that Alice is a 15 year old girl who gets involved with many different types of drugs and the story is based on her actual diary. She has a nice and well put together family, friends, and even a lovable boyfriend, but at the same time, Alice still feels like an outsider. As they moved into a new state, (the book does'nt say where), she still goes back nd forth to her hometown still keeping in contact with her friends who gets her hooked on drugs. when she leaves her old town for the summer and returns home, Alice is currently off drugs until she makes a new friend at her job who gets her on some new drugs.  With her new 18 year old friend Cris, (who is a girl), she had gotten her a college boyfriend, and to run away to San Francisco. Alice and Cris eventually comes back home and everything is fine with her and her family, except for her "bipolar and nagging" mom, until they become drug dealers and run away once again to Oregon. (This is where I am currently at in the book).

1. The Story Behind My Book Choice

I chose my book, Go Ask Alice, because of when we were in class choosing our top for books, I was glancing at the mini summaries. When I glanced at Go Ask Alice, I read how it was about a young teenage girl right around the age 15, and how she begin drugs. I chose this book because it sounded really interesting and it really got my attenion because of how her age is right around mys, and how it is also based on a true and young girls life.
